I like using a Bluetooth headset while I’m on the phone. It makes it possible and safer to do other things while I talk; make notes, drive, clean the office or house. For me this means I can be more flexible with my time on the phone. But I hate having it in my ear anytime I’m not using it. So I tend to misplace it a lot.
No surprise then that I lost my headset the other day. It finally occurred to me to look in the pocket of the pants I was wearing when I last remembered having it and, sure enough, there it was. Just one little problem; when I looked in the pants, they were neatly folded in the laundry room because they had just come out of the dryer. I had just washed and dried my headset.
Being an optimist, I turned it on anyway. Much to my surprise and delight, it connected to my phone right away. And it has been working normally ever since. It may even be a little cleaner now. Apparently even a blind hog finds a few acorns now and then.
In case you are wondering what kind of headset survives such mistreatment, it was a Blueant Q3. Years ago, after trying several headsets I finally settled on Blueant. That’s because they are the only headsets I found where I had to turn down the volume for normal conversations. Which means I can turn it up if I can’t hear the caller; an option that was unavailable on almost all other headsets I tried – even the very expensive ones. The Blueants work great, are reasonably priced, and can withstand the moderate abuse I heap upon them.
Full disclosure requires that I mention that we have a high efficiency washer. So maybe it didn’t get submerged. And fortunately the headset was powered off when I washed it. So I wouldn’t jump in pool with one on and expect miracles.
Here is the explanation for the bad pun I made in the title – sorry for that. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Funny_Thing_Happened_on_the_Way_to_the_Forum
